Why You Need To Start A Blog

blogging Sep 22, 2020

Many of us may have heard it. “Blogging is dead”...But is it really?

With the rise of social media platforms like Instagram, Pinterest and people tuning in more to podcasts, you might be asking yourself “What’s the point of blogging? Is it even really worth it to start a blog?”

While the decision of whether or not to start a blog is entirely personal, I’m sharing my top 5 reasons why I love blogging and believe it’s an essential part of any online business!

1. You own your blog

As much as I love spending time posting photos on Instagram, I don’t own my Instagram page. And with the dreaded changes in algorithms and funky things that go on, (hello people losing thousands of followers or having their accounts deleted!) you can never be sure of what the future will look like for these platforms. When you have a blog, you own your domain. You have your own space online and you have MUCH more control over it.

2. Your content is evergreen

One amazing thing about sharing blog posts is that much of the content you share is evergreen. Meaning the content will live longer. People will always continuously be searching for chia pudding recipes and meal planning guides on my food blog Choosing Chia, and when they do, your content will be there to serve them.

3. You’ll have a much bigger audience

In 2010, there were 7 billion people on earth. Of that population, 26% were online. By the year 2020, there will be 7.8 billion people on earth and experts are estimating that virtually 100% of the population will be online. (source) To put this in perspective, that’s 3-5 billion more people online. That’s a wholeeee lotta people to serve! By having a blog you’ll have the opportunity to reach a MUCH broader audience with your content!

4. You can help others

There’s nothing more gratifying than having the opportunity to help others. Whether you blog about wellness tips, sharing your recipes or offering travel guides, whatever you choose to share on your blog you have the opportunity to help serve others with free content. I mean, how awesome is that? Seeing people make my recipes from mt blog and tell me how it helped them out with new dinner inspo, or helped them eat healthier, or helped them reach their weight-loss goals is the real driving force behind why I love blogging.

5. You can create a life you love

Goodbye 9-5, hello fabulous! With time, dedication and effort, blogging can become a full-time career and you can generate revenue beyond your wildest dreams. While it takes A LOT of work, I’m here to tell you that it is 100% possible to create a full-time job as a blogger and wake up every day doing what you love.
